About Us

Sweet Cicely Studio is the project of artists Hannah Gelderman and Madeleine Salomons. Long-time family friends, they both grew up and live on Treaty Six Territory in Edmonton, AB. After separately pursuing arts degrees, they began more serious collaborations and, in 2025, created Sweet Cicely Studio. Inspired by the land and watersheds in the aspen parkland where they live, they hand-paint bold and playful designs onto arches, murals, and more.

The name Sweet Cicely Studio comes from a lovely anise-scented flowering plant, Long-Styled Sweet Cicely (Osmorhiza longistylis), that grows wild in Hannah’s backyard and in the North Saskatchewan river valley.

Arch Origins

In June 2025, Hannah’s sister and Madeleine’s dear friend Gabrielle got married to the love of her life, April. While planning the wedding, the brides hinted to their most creative sidekicks that they would love a painted arch—one that told their beautiful love story, and also served as a gorgeous photo backdrop.

Luckily, Hannah and Madeleine were energized by the creative challenge and agreed to bring the project to life. They recruited their dads to help build the arch, and Madeleine and Hannah designed and hand-painted it. As they worked together, they realized what a unique and meaningful addition this arch would be to the wedding, and figured there might be others out there who would agree.

Thus, Sweet Cicely Studio’s arches were born!
